Research

Research Revelant to Saul Leiter transport - modern ext ......

influence from artist ......

Aims

I aim to focus on looking at specifically public transport as I believe that I can create a clear story by focusing on this topic. I aim to focus specifically on colour and how I manipulate it in photoshop to show the vibrance and life of those who travel and my interest in the vehicles themselves.

Work Record 2

Research (of artists and techniques)

I focused this shoot on Saul Leiter's use of busy city environments to achieve framing through windows and objects that are abstract. I will be using influence from Dann Ginn in this shoot.

Dann Ginn ........

  • Depth of field (DoF) - The distance between the nearest and furthest points in which an object will be in focus. A longer distance means the DoF is deeper, and a shorter distance means the DoF is shallower. This selective focus technique allows the artist to directly control which areas of the frame the viewer should be focused on.

Aims
In this shoot I aim to capture inner city life, to manipulate framing through basic things such as fencing and sculptures in areas such as westminster, with all my photographs including people.
I will be focusing on the angles at which my images are taken, ensuring there is a clear frame that produces an abstract effect. I will be seeing how I can manipulate pre-made street artworks for my own advantage.

Contact Sheet - circled in blue are images I have selected and the one with the question mark fits my theme but needs to be adjusted and edited for it to be able to fit the layered have the effect that I desire.
the images ticked fit my intentions from the start of the shoot and the rest are me experimenting with my surroundings.

My Best images

This image captures framing from an abstract bench on the riverside, I think this image has juxtaposition its meaning as the lady in the main frame is alone and it creates a sense of isolation from the individuals either side of her.  The colour that is dominating this photo is the fluorescent orange which i think is This photograph is directly inspired by an image from Dann Ginn but this is my interpretation of it.

This is a more detailed level of research  (than the research log) where you need to look at 5 photographers (No1, No2, etc.).  For each photographer, you are required to evaluate each photograph, the evaluations will require a critical analysis of the photograph (denotation, connotation and context) and some contextual information on the photographer.  If they are a known photographer (e.g. Henri Cartier Bresson, Robert Frank), you can start with an intro with contextual information about them.

The influence and summary section should only be completed once you have completed your shoots and will require you to explain how the photographer research influenced the way you executed your project.   You should include an example of your own work to show visually how your work relates to theirs.  This could relate to e.g. the way you used similar lighting, composition, etc.
·       the influence can relate to the visual approach of the photographer or technical /conceptual approach.
·       technical approaches e.g. lighting, composition, camera settings, etc.

·       conceptual approach e.g. follow similar ideas.

This image to me represents that there is always good within. This is due to the dirt covered window revealing the face of an innocent child which to me is deemed as beautiful. The framing has been created by the clean spot in the window which is abstract and a natural technique.

This image creates a sense of irony the framing surrounding the monk creates juxtaposition as the framing looks to be of expensive taste and presumably is very valuable. Yet the monk lives in simplicity and does not find comfort in expensive and materialistic things. He is also posing with elegance yet his face seems sad which creates for a confusing interpretation.

this image is interesting because there is a lot of juxtaposition in the image. The image shows framing through manipulation of the windows. This image is very ironic as it is advertising soap yet the bus is showing many individuals cramped together which is seen as unhygienic. This also shows the difficulties of life for the poor and how they cannot afford what is advertised on their public transport.   also, the soap has the word lux imprinted, which is an abbreviation of luxury, however the individuals on the bus do not live a life of luxury.
