Juxtaposition focuses on creative opportunities to provide comparison and emphasise contrast. I think Juxtaposition is very interesting in creating a political message as there are many things such as gender age and ethnicity that can influence the meaning of a contrasting image. I think its interesting as you can approach it using simple yet abstract effects such as reflection and shadows, and the artists within this topic use varied techniques, for example Uta Barth and Frank Gohlke presented their photos in pairs.
My Exam Paper Decision
Framing Devices -
I have chosen to use framing devices as it is an interesting way to explore and create connotations and inferences that have a hidden meaning behind it. I am interested in the idea of using the natural shapes, shadows and lines that can be seen on a daily basis to influence the framing in my image to create various stories and moods. I like that the photographs do not have to have people in it to create an effect, allowing for more imaginative connotations.
The things that I am drawn too the most from this research are the effective factors and the techniques of literal framing and photos that manipulate focus. I am drawn to Saul Leiters ideas too and also looking into different composition effects.
